Apprenticeship FAQ:
Good to know.

For us, your strengths count.

This is how your training is structured.

You are always in a department for three months; from the beginning, we fully integrate you into all tasks.

But don't worry, we won't throw you in at the deep end, but slowly introduce you to everything. And there is always someone available to ask you questions.

Your talent determines your path with us.

Little by little, we will find you the tasks that match your talents.

For example, you are doing a commercial apprenticeship but are also interested in technology? Then we have just the interface for you.

"If you have completed your training with us and then still want to study, we will contribute to the costs if possible.

Of course, that also depends on your field of study. For example, if you trained as an industrial clerk and now want to study business administration, that's a combination we're happy to support. Just get in touch with us.

Swantje Geyer, Head of Education

We'll get you in shape for your exams.

The trainees from the commercial professions have to give a presentation in front of the IHK examiners and prepare it beforehand.

We play through this presentation together with you. Especially helpful: You get feedback from a professional trainer.

We rehearse your exam.

Before your exam, we'll play out the whole situation.

For example, we ask you questions - just like the IHK does. So far, our trainees have always benefited from this. Experience shows that the grades are pretty good.

Trainee projects - here you can let off steam.

Our trainees regularly publish blog posts and run their own Instagram account. Would you like to be part of this project group? We are happy to have reinforcements.

There are many more projects waiting for you. For example, our trainees set up a delivery service during the Corona period: You could order breakfast rolls and the newspaper at our petrol stations, which were then delivered to your home. Maybe you have an idea for a new project?

"When we develop ideas for new apprentice projects, we apprentices really do it alone.

And later we implement everything on our own responsibility. We brainstorm, decide, plan everything through and then it starts. That's real life.

Helena, Apprentice

A few practical things.

You earn good money with us right from the start.

Even in the first year of training, you will receive a gross salary of over € 1,000, plus holiday pay and Christmas bonus.

Gross salary per apprenticeship year:

1st year: approx. 1.100 €

2nd year: approx. 1.200 €

3rd year: approx. 1.300 €

4th year: approx. 1.400 €

We pay for your books for vocational school. And if you want to take a course to prepare for your exams, we'll pay for that, too. We also provide you with a laptop for your work.

Work and life - we think both are important.

You have 30 days of holiday; you work 37.5 hours per week.

The time you work longer, you then take off later - and together with the time off in lieu, you then have a few extra days of holiday. Not bad, is it?

Are you coming to us by bus or bike?

If you come by bus, take line 17 and get off directly in front of our door - stop Westfalen AG.

There are extra trainee tickets, e.g. take a look at the AzubiAbo Westfalen: Info on the AzubiAbo of Westphalia.

Are you travelling by bike? You can park it in the covered bicycle parking area.

Our trainee community - and you're right in the middle of it.

Right in the first week of training, you will get to know your fellow trainees and receive information about the company - in the form of plant tours, product training, team training and so on.

"I was reassured at the beginning that all the other trainees were just as excited as I was.

That welded us together even more. And then the excitement quickly died down anyway."

Jeffrey, Apprentice

And before we forget: Then there's the youth apprentice representation - that's the works council for apprentices. So if you have something on your mind, you can get support there too. Or even better, join in and stand for election.

A look behind the scenes: Experience our trainees in the making-of video of our new training film!

In any case, there was no shortage of fun at work and everyone joined in.

The Westfalen Commitment for you.

Your soft skills also make you a professional.

Apart from the technical content, we also have a training programme for your soft skills: you can learn how to perform even better, how to set your priorities best and much more.

"Speaking in front of people is no longer a problem for me.

I never used to like giving presentations. But now, after the presentation training, it's no longer a problem for me; I even enjoy doing it."

Nathalie, Apprentice

"We are almost all on first name terms here. Even the older colleagues and the managers.

It brings in so much looseness. And I have the feeling that everyone feels super comfortable with it."

Luisa, Apprentice

The apprentices ask - the board members answer.

Another family event: the Q&A session with our board members.

In this round, our board members are at your disposal and the first-year students - as our apprentices call themselves - can ask all kinds of questions. By the way, they are also allowed to ask private questions.

In the family I like to be on a first-name basis.

As a family business, the atmosphere is very important to us.

For example, we have launched the #GernePerDu initiative. This is how it is gradually becoming accepted throughout the company that we are becoming more and more familiar with each other.

Sounds like you suit us? And we to you?
